Any chance one could beg borrow or barter for some seeds and info?

I have a close friend who ran a market garden for the last 10 years, If you have some specific questions, I would be glad to ask him.
He is pretty knowledgeable, I have learned a lot from him over the past couple years.

Are you looking at growing in your backyard or on a piece of land?

Here are a couple of about a bazillon places to get started:

Seed Exchanges:

http://www.heirloomseedswap.com/

http://wimgo.com/norman-ok/seed-and-plant-exchange/events/259494 (This is the 2012 date. You might check and see if they have one set for 2013 and just not gotten it posted yet.)

http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/okgard/msg0417174110544.html (Again, this one is for a previous year, but OKC Organics is still around -- at NW 27th and Penn -- so I'm sure if you called them or went by they could give you more current info.)

Will Rogers Park has more than a few plant and seed sales and exchanges throughout the year. So does the OSU/OKC Horticultural Center IIRC ...

My point is that you can find what you want all over the place around here without too much trouble and with very little to no cost. Anyway, that's enough "seed stuff" to get you started ...

Opps, I just noticed you are in Tulsa ... No matter, just call the local libary or county extension office or google "seed exchanges Tulsa" and that should net you a mother lode of stuff ...

As for gardening, it all depends on what techniques you are most interested in. Here are some of the more popular sites (i.e., the stuff I'm most interested in right now lol)

Square Foot Gardening: http://www.journeytoforever.org/garden_sqft.html The original concept and books are by Mel Bartholomew.

Four Season Gardening: http://1greengeneration.elementsintime.com/?p=284 You might also check out Eliot Coleman's books on this and organic gardening.

Vertical Gardening: http://www.vegetable-gardening-online.com/vertical-vegetable-gardening.html

There's plenty of other "side subjects" like composting, vermiculture, small animal husbandry (for the nutrients their waste adds to your compost), greenhouse and hot frame growing ... the list goes on and on, so it just kinda depends on where your particular interests lie. Whatever you do, HAVE FUN with it!

Our lives are already stressed out enough, so start small and work your way up (that's the little bitty t-tiny voice of experience speaking there! lol) or you will be so overwhelmed you won't know what to do with yourself ...

Hope this helps!

Was gonna edit my post but it won't let me ...

Another thing to try ... Google "seed exchange" and you can find all kinds of places where you can get seeds for little or no cost, just as long as you are willing to let a plant or two go to seed and return those seeds to the exchange ... They are pretty nifty ways to get some really unusual or hard to find seeds.

I didn't see seedsavers on the list. I have used them a number of times for heirloom seed purchases.

http://www.seedsavers.org/

Duh!! I need to start me a .pdf where I can just paste for stuff like this. I have so many "shortcuts" on my computer you can't even see the screen. lol

Hey, have you seen the article in Heirloom Gardener on how to have tomatos on early June?? I'm gonna give it a try this year ... Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it!
