I see no connection as to how the Islam thread should prevent me from taking offense to some of the derogatory comments being made about the Christian faith. I had no participation in the Islamic bashing in any of the posts that you cited or at any other point during my time here. Can anyone honestly tell me with a straight face that a Christian would even be taken seriously if he were to act offended over comments made about Islam? What about a white man being offended over comments made towards an African American? Any such reaction would be dismissed as that person isn't part of the group being offended.

At no point have I mocked or condemned anyone's faith or lack there-of. As such, I don't particularly care to have mine ridiculed in return. Apparently there's no hope for civility, so I'll likely just steer clear of these types of discussions in the future.

This is what Jesus said about the Pharisees:
Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat, 3 so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice. 4 They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear,[a] and lay them on people's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. 5 They do all their deeds to be seen by others. For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, 6 and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues 7 and greetings in the marketplaces and being called rabbi by others. 8 But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers.[c] 9 And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. 10 Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ. 11 The greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people's faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.[d] 15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell[e] as yourselves.

16 “Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ 17 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that has made the gold sacred? 18 And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gift that is on the altar, he is bound by his oath.’ 19 You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred? 20 So whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. 21 And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and by him who dwells in it. 22 And whoever swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who sits upon it.

23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. 24 You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel!

25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. 26 You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean.

7 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people's bones and all uncleanness. 28 So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

29 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous, 30 saying, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ 31 Thus you witness against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. 32 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers. 33 You serpents, you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to hell? 34 Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town, 35 so that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah,[f] whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. 36 Truly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.

You don't see any Pharisees squawking about being called hypocrites do you?

The connection he is trying to make is that people have bashed Muslims on this forum and (gasp) on the internet and with that his friends who are religious bigots should be able to bash Christians on this forum. In short, he is (lamely) trying to rationalize what he perceives to be bad behavior with the bad behavior of his bigoted friends on this forum.

Can anyone honestly tell me with a straight face that a Christian would even be taken seriously if he were to act offended over comments made about Islam?

Depends on what the Muslim was doing. Upwards of 90% of Muslims do not believe in the jihad bender that has been going on for almost 1,400 years. Many Muslims are fighting and have fought against the radical elements who they think have perverted their faith. In comparison, they object to those hijacking their religion just as many Christians object to the asshats at WBC or what some so-called Christian dipsticks are doing in Uganda to homosexuals.

On the flip side unless one has on their favorite pair of Obama knee pads, it would be (in my opinion) fair to criticize those Muslims who consider themselves “true believes” and are waging a holy war against us infidels just as it would be fair to criticize the actions of WBC. The jihadis are the ultimate examples of religious bigotry and really need a lesson in the theory of hydrostatic shock to remedy their hatred.

Apparently there's no hope for civility, so I'll likely just steer clear of these types of discussions in the future.

It’s just a “failure to communicate” that you do not own. There are religious bigots on any forum. What you are finding out is that the bigots that troll these threads do not have the communication skill-sets of a middle school child that had to take two laps around the fifth grade track. Even if they were to mindlessly parrot Dawkins or Hitchens they would still sound whiny and developmentally challenged.

You write very well and you do such with reason and fairness. Please do not get discouraged.

Religious bigot, per dogboy.

Looks like we're gonna need a Pharisee subforum too.

Oh dogboy. Where to start. First of all, why the animus?

Second of all, Dawkins followed by Hitchens may be the only two men to have ever walked more annoying and pompous than you, but I do enjoy reading what you type more. I hate those guys. Dawkins especially. I got further into Atlas Shrugged than I did into the God Delusion before wanting to puke, and that's saying something. I've read the bible multiple times.

Next, my friends aren't the bigots. I just stick up for the little bigots. It distracts me from my own shortcomings until I make it to the liquor store.

Also, I'm simply not a religious bigot. I am you. We are one in the same, and I don't mean brothers in Christ. We are both by definition, internet trolls. You, with the dualing screen names and earning of bans, may be a more accomplished one than I, but I'm still not jealous. After all, you're older.

Finally, I find it most odd that in all this time you don't care to know what church I am currently a member of. Almost as odd as to how this post goes a little bit easier on Islam than many of your previous posts, but after all, a man can change, right? Personal growth is a virtue, after all.

Go back and read the thread, Caspar. You were in here whining about animus and bigotry well before I entered the fray. Makes sense because I have not insulted Christians much at all in this thread, save for a jab at my buddies with the SBC. In fact, it seems you have more of an issue with the ideology (bigotry) of 3 of our very own moderators than my own. Most of my work in this thread has nothing to do with religion. I just saw you riding back in here on different high horse, but still carrying the same lance. I don't know if you think addressing me in the third person helps you hold your high ground like some type of weird compromise between ignoring me and engaging me, but that's cute too.
