It's easier to control an unarmed populace when the house of cards falls. They know it's coming - and likely pretty soon. A blind person could see that this won't last much longer. When it crashes, people will become very, very dangerous. Unarmed people slightly less so, and much easier to deal with for the "authorities".

Couldnt they effectively seceed regardless of what the fed says? They could just quit paying into the fed and stop listening to their directives. Lord knows they have enough oil and facilities to keep themselves going. They could get all their fruits and whatnot from just over their border.

Hell, they could open their border and then with nothing in place to stop much beyond TX it would be hell on the surrounding states(us included). If TX was serious about it, they could really make a big stink over this.

Is this really a news worthy item? That States cannot simply secede from the Union? This was settled over a century ago.

Well, if Nazi Germany is a parallel here, Hitler had a plan for that. When consolidating power, he went to the Army first. The Army had a long list of grievances and a big dislike for Hitler. All he had to do is promise the Army general staff that he'd make all their dreams come true. Budget? No problem. Troop levels? Whatever. Policy input? Done. In one meeting, Hitler made enough promises that made the Army fall right in line.

Given our president's skill at buying support, do you think the Pentagon would be any different? Now, a lot of active duty servicemen would leave the service in protest. But, Obama will not have to worry about Pentagon loyalties once he's bought it with goodies.
