Scouted yesterday morning and found 100 or so mallards on a big pond, not much ice and there were quite a bunch of geese also. Went in and setup in the dark this morning to the deafening sound of 1000 snows and cacklers. Daylight came, the rain came, the geese drifted the other way, the ducks never came, more rain came and we left. Shot a mallard drake as we were packing up. Geese never budged until we were actually driving away from the property. We're riding on the struggle bus this year for sure.
I went out with my son and a couple of his friends. Widgeon and mallards worked the goose spread. Nice mixed bag. It’s been slow round here and this is the first time out for me this year.
