.45ACP carry ammo...

It's been a long time since I've owned a .45 caliber pistol.

I picked up a Smith & Wesson model 4566 today!

What's everybody's favorite carry load for this big bore?

When you say Federal HST, are you referring to the old school Hydra-Shoks?

I carried those back in the day and sure liked 'em.

Of course, that was a few years ago. I figured technology being what it is, somebody woulda built a better mousetrap by now.

But...I reckon if something works, it works!

Evan, I have always carried Hydra Shoks. I have seen too many other HPs that often failed to open up. I have never seen a HS fail to open on impact. I stay with what I know works.

Not mine! I'm gonna tote the sucker! I got it mainly for my prisoner transports and some occasional concealed carry.

I have a Gould & Goodrich double mag pouch and a Yaqui slide on the way.

Any of the modern HP ammo will be fine in the 230 grain variety. Gold Dots, Golden Sabre, HST, Ranger, XTP or TAP. It's all good. It's a .45 after all, just use what feeds in your gun.

I use CorBon Pow-R-Ball. The "tip" makes them feed more like Ball than HP and is supposed to keep them from "clogging" on garment materials.
