not trying to be a smart arse, but can you really load faster with speed strips than speed loaders?

I don't know, it's all about practicing with what you carry, I'm fair with them and if I practiced more I know I would get better. My point is that between the grips I have and the speed loaders I've tried I'm sticking to something that actually puts the rounds in the cylinder and that's speed strips

Yeah, the grips make a big difference. I've tried a couple different types that were "speedloader cut". The standard wood J-frame grips seem to stick out too far for the speedloader to work right. The uncle mike's boot grips offer full access, so there's no problem using them. I don't like the push button style speed loaders, but I do like the HKS twist type. They seem to hold up better for me and aren't as likely to accidently dump live rounds if I bump the button. Of course the twist type are slower than the push type.

Actually, the Safariland Comp I speedloaders look like they use a push button, but that little do-dad is how you lock the rounds in place in the loader. The trigger mechanism that loads the rounds into the cylinder is in the middle of the loader. It mates up with the star of the cylinder when the loader is inserted and releases the round by a simple push of the entire loader. The Safariland Comp I loader actually works better than the HKS.

I know. I was a die hard HKS user as well. I still am with K frames. But the first time I used a Safariland Comp I on my mighty J frame, I was hooked.

And don't worry about the little button on the top. You can push and push and push some more on the little feller, but them rounds ain't goin' nowhere!

But, because of easier carry and positive reloading, I rarely ever carry a speedloader with my J frame. Speed strips are the way to go...just PRACTICE WITH THEM!
