My car was broken into last night. They busted out the passenger side window. The cowl around the ignition was busted out as well. This makes it look like they were trying to steal it, but something is not right. My car is about the oldest on the street. Why bypass brand new ones parked 10 feet away when you can boost a 90 Geo, right? Why is there a hole in the cowl on the opposite side of the ignition? Also, they passed right over computer equipment and -ahem- another expensive item in the glove box.

The part that of this that is REALLY broiling my lasagna is that the police don't respond to "burglary" as they put it. Let's see. I know there are a ton of LEOs on this site and I mean NO SLIGHT to them. My issue with TPD on this is administrative and has nothing to do with the regular guys. But, what level of crime gets a response from the police? Breaking/attempted theft doesn't get a response. Does breaking/attempted theft while wearing a "down with local government" t-shirt get a response? From FBI, probably. But not TPD. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. We seem to be spending more and more on local government services, but are getting less and less for it. PLEASE DON'T FLAME ME! This is just a rant from someone 15 mins off of seeing their car trashed.

I'm gonna buy 15 acres of land in the bloody middle of nowhere and live in a hut.

I'm going to join the easier to steal crowd on this one. Probably just someone looking to joy ride on your time. Especially since they didn't take anything with them. Not a smash and grab situation.

I had my truck and my wife's car broke into here in Edmond a few months ago. Luckily there was no damage, as I had left the doors unlocked (I figured "Hey, its Edmond, I live in a good neighborhood, no one would mess with my truck.")

The Edmond PD sent someone out in less than 30 min, which was nice, but honestly it didn't make any difference. He just wrote down a report, and told us to lock our cars from now on.

No offense but you can't call it "broke into" if you leave the doors unlocked. It's more like you shared your items with anyone who wanted them.

That sucks, What part of town do you live in? I currently live in mid-town and crime there isn't quite as bad as other places.
I agree with the easier to steal theory also.

After being broke into twice and having to replace the glass and some nice stereos, I put the factory radio back in and took literally everything of value and started leaving my doors unlocked.

A piece on the news last week said that they are stealing older cars alot more now because of all of the fancy new gadgets on newer autos making their 'jobs' harder to steal them- GPS,alarms,etc- and that some of the scrap yards will take the older cars without titles just for the scrap steel. The newer autos they are still stealing but mostly just to use in crimes and then left behind. If they left stuff behind in yours they were probably just in a big hurry trying to get the scrap metal and not taking the time to ransack. Apparently they were also amateurs and couldnt figure out how to pop your ignition.

Thieves suck, especially bad ones who just damage property. Windows suck replacing them too.

My old reliable 88' Blazer 4x4 with a Clifford Matrix alarm is usually about the only auto that doesnt get hit when they come along perodically and break into cars on our block. My car and the wifes car stay in the garage. When she did leave hers out once she also left it unlocked and they came along and stole everything out of it. Being in a nice part of town in a small town just outside a big town doesnt matter either.
