Idiots at public auction.

Went to a public auction recently. They had 15 to 20 guns up for sale. All were in great shape, but still used. I thought, hey might get a good deal here as it looked like a bunch of rednecks and farmers. WOW!! is all I can say. First one up for sale was a Golden Boy .22. You can buy one for what, around $350 brand new. Went for $600..... you read that correctly.... $600. Most of them went for new price and higher. Bunch of complete idiots.

HMMM! I'll bet if those were your guns. You'd be glad the idiots showed up.

There used to be a "code or custom" between farmers/ranchers that they would go to the neighbors auction and pay too much to help the family out. kind of like donating to charity.

It's the fever. The auction fever. Otherwise normal people turn into maniacs when the auction fever hits them.

Wrong, auction houses selling firearms must be ffl's and a 4473 with background check still has to be done before transfer of possession. If an auctioneer is not licensed or doing a 4473 they in violation of federal law.

Unless it's an estate auction that is. Since the OP said gun auction I bet it falls under the needs license category.

Yeah I see the same thing People over paying for firearms at NRA and Ducks Unlimited banquet auctions..Also happens alot at charity type auctions on non guns..Dodo heads.

I used to go to police or sheriff gun auctions and know what you mean. I agree w/ the auction fever. Prices can get ridiculous.

There is an auction in Elk City about twice a year that is nothing but guns and I went to it twice before I decided that I am not up for playing the bidding war games. I agree with the above that the guns were going for mint condition prices, if not more.

Duh! Your supposed too. They are fundraisers. Anything paid over a certain point is tax deductable.
The whole reason for the event is to raise money, not give you a bargain.

Say your going to donate $500 to DU. Do you cut them a check or go to the Banquet and over pay for a shotgun? The choice is yours.
