The DOD has released a statement saying they meant no disrespect to native americans.... Code names are chosen randomly...

I dunno...are they being to sensative? I understand their side of the story...but the DOD meant nothing by it?
Thoughts?

If you look at the US military's history chasing Geronimo and the fear his name caused for non-Indians across the southwest you might see some common factors. His people (Ft. Sill Apache) may take offense to his name being given to Bin Laden.

From what I understand Bin Laden wasn't Geronimo. Geronimo was just the code for the operation to kill Bin Laden not the man himself. I may be wrong but it really doesn't matter either way as long as the bastard is dead.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Geronimo was not his name, it was a nickname given to him by non-Indians....his real name was Goyakhla or something.

So the Apaches are upset about what exactly? That we used a name that wasn't his name?
