Wow! I think some of the responses were uncalled for. I certainly did not drop judgement on anyone on the board and I don't appreciate having it done to me. I presented my view point and welcome civil, well reasoned comments. Perhaps my mind can be changed on this matter. Leveling judgements at me or anyone else such as the claim of selfishness will do nothing to help me or anyone else listen. Making assumptions about my background and experience and calling them fact are unlikely to help me change my mind either. Now realistically it is to be expected that this will happen from time to time on a board that is open to all and I will not maintain grudges over the matter. After all some are rather emotionally affected by the event so things will be said that offend no matter how well meaning the individual or group may be. But it is unfortunate that should happen here where civility is our most useful and important tool for certain issues that are sure to crop up shortly. Again please understand that I bear no ill will to those who choose to a career of law enforcement, military service or any form of public service. I am a public servant myself and understand some of the things that have to be given up to remain in that line of work. I fully support law enforcement in their work in so far as it does not cross certain boundaries and I suspect most here feel that way as well. A reasoning person should certainly look upon authority with a cautious eye and hold it to a very high standard of conduct. You don't have to agree with me but when someone makes a comment that seems contrary to the expectations for the position they have been trusted with it does set off alarms.

Perhaps I shouldn't have lumped your post in with the other one. If so, my apologies. This board has had a checkered history of attacks on law enforcement, some justifiable, most not. Threads like this tend to wind up locked as a result. There are a significant number of members here who are in law enforcement, related to LEO's or friends with LEO's. It's a tough job and a small but vocal minority here simply don't care about that fact. In this case, the facts simply don't line up with the perception, regardless of words spoken after the fact. It's already tough for the LE community to weather the storm when a LEO commits a bad faith act. When they act in good faith and come under fire, the chords are already struck.

Again, my apologies for the short tempered post.

Yes. Screw the Constitution. Screw due process. Screw everything that America stands. Just summarily execute the bastard.

When someone has you at the end of a gun barrel and small pieces of lead are flying out of it in your direction I fully agree with everything you have written.

Which is quite different from the "if you shoot a cop, you've just signed your death warrant" mentality being touted as legitimate, indeed, as righteous. It is neither.
