Okie dokie,

Ive got an old Ford F100 that Ive had for some time now and I'm planning its resurrection. Its going to have an entirely new drive train and front end. I have a 351W that Ive always thought I'd put in there but it seems that you can get a long block 302 from ford or blueprint that makes just over 300HP and that should be more then plenty. Behind the power plant I'm planning on putting an AOD.

So, What do ya'll think? keep and rebuild the 351 (it doesn't really need it other then sitting for 12 or so years)? Order a long block and from where? Any input would be much appreciated

Go late model fuel injected with a/c. If your not die hard Ford look into some of the gm packages. How much you want spend would be key.....

Why would you ever want to put a GM engine in a Ford?

Budget is the key though. Also, what are your goals for the truck? Reliability driver? More hp? Help us out a little.

Bring the knowledge wrench guys. My wife & I talk about getting her 72 Ford pickup back to a reliable driver many times & I have wondered the same thing - rebuild or replace?

I have a buddy with a 1989 Mustang with a Chevy 383 stroker.

If it was me I would go with the 351ci, if you are wanting something with alot of HP you could always get a 428 cobrajet

I'd use the 351W, but if you want a longblock, look at fordstrokers.com. Jim Woods "woody" sells a lot of motors to ford guys on the mustang forums.

depends on goals...I have a 68 in my driveway and have debated doing the unholy thing and going modern fuel injection....but I am still looking for a 390 or 460 depending upon which I can get the better deal on and I am about to sell our suburban to fund part of the restore.

Thanks for the replies so far guys.

Putting a chevy motor in a ford is a no go. My initial thoughts on budget would be 3 to 4 grand for the engine. I'm wanting to keep the truck as a parts runner type truck that has the look of an ole work truck but the feel of something a lot more modern. other then A/C, the suspension and the drivetrain it will be mostly original.

It has to be able to cruise and pass on the highway without much effort and at the same time not cost an udder fortune to feed. Power to pull a boat or trailer from time to time is a must. Fuel injection would be neat but The cost is a deterrent. Im thinking modern ignition system, manual fuel pump, and a 600 CFM Carb.

Would a heated up 306Ci be equivalent to a stock-ish 351W? Im guessing it would be a little lighter which is nice considering a '55 ford is so darn front heavy anyway
