What is happening is that the Dems want a shutdown so they can try to blame the Republicans. The Republicans are trying to work with them but the Dims say no.

The House once again endorsed an approach that delays the law's individual mandate while prohibiting lawmakers, their staff and top administration officials from getting government subsidies for their health care.

And the Senate once again rejected it, in a party-line, 54-46 vote Tuesday morning.

Republicans say that's what they're trying to do. Republicans this time tried to urge the Senate to form a so-called conference committee -- a bicameral committee where lawmakers from both chambers would meet to resolve the differences between the warring pieces of legislation.

Though the House has already begun appointing representatives to that committee, the Senate rejected the offer on Tuesday morning. Democrats insist they would not agree to that approach unless and until the House approves a "clean" budget bill.

They actually did have a compromise to keep everything up and running. But somebody keeps trying to get rid of or change the health care law. As soon as both sides end their d*** measuring contest, maybe they can get something done. Then again we're going to see this over again in few more weeks.

You mean like Obama exempting whoever he chooses doesn't have to follow the Affordable Care Act as passed?

I say if the Dems won't go along with defunding Obamacare, make everyone follow the law as passed. No exemptions.

Well ... the way I see it is that 435 of them passed and forwarded several proposed funding measures that would have avoided any shutdown but 100 (plus one) refused to consider them because they didn't like one or two particular provisions of them. But what do I know <shrug>.

My GF went in at 6:00 am and worked 8 hours today for no pay. Got her forms for unemployment and has to watch the news to see if she'll have a job anytime soon. Not sure if that's "the hype" you are referring or not, but at our house, it ain't hype.

Sorry to hear about your GF. I watched today as Civilians walked out not knowing when they'll be back and there is no guarantee they'll receive back pay.
Some of y'all need to realize this is bigger than YOU and your EGO and what you think you know. If you don't have something constructive to say, STFU.

You're right. This is bigger than all of us, but ego has little to do with it. All we're doing is asking you to get by on a little less money. Kind of like you're asking me to live on a little less so that you don't lose your job.

And some need to realize that this is bigger than any one individual's job. That's a harsh truth, but it's the truth...and it is constructive.

Yes, it absolutely sucks that some hard working folks are caught up in the political mess, but in the end more people are going to get permanent walking papers if we are serious about 'fixing' this thing and righting the ship.

Let's just hope it can be done in a more measured and projected manner.

My bad, heat of the moment. I know people who don't know when they'll get paid again, hits close to home seeing them walk out the door.
Hopefully this can be fixed and fast.

This is why I stick to one of my main rules, I don't discuss politics or religion, well, not very often.
