I concur with the OP that people should do this because flying ice isn't just a pain it is a significant road hazard. However, when ice flies I try to just accept it with calmness - might be harder to do with a shard of ice embedded in my cranium though.

I wonder what the law is in Oklahoma? Here in Alaska it is a ticketable offense to not remove the ice and snow from your vehicle. It's also a violation here in Anchorage to not clear the sidewalks in front of your house and you can't put that snow you shoveled outta the driveway into the street.

As an ex collision repair tech, this makes me cringe. Unless it was a beater to begin with.

Ha, you've seen the beater. I think you would agree, no harm done by a rubber mallet.

It does remind me of a story my mom told me. In her early 20's she worked for an insurance agency and they had a client come in with his car to file a claim for hail damage. However, he was too stupid to at least hide the ball peen hammer before the adjuster looked at it. I think you know how this story ended.

Should businesses also clear their roofs?

Ice sheets fall from mall's roof

You know there's a personal injury lawyer out there wondering why someone didn't just walk on out there...

As for not scraping the car, you don't have to scrape the car... just let it run for a half hour or so with the heater on full blast. Most of the ice will slide right off once you break the edges around the doors. Leaving ice on your vehicle shows that you're just lazy and inconsiderate.

I agree that anything flies off my vehicle, I should be responsible for it, particularly on a car or pickup. However, it's pretty risky business climbing on top of a 13' 6" icy semi trailer to clear the ice and snow; I'll bet most companies won't permit it due to the risk. I usually park my drilling rig inside if ice is coming and I will have to drive it before melting weather arrives. It is impossible to completely clear a mast with all the supports, cables, etc.

Veggie Meat, if you got a fresh coat of ice on your car on your trip to Weatherford, how many times did you stop on the side of the road to get that ice off your car??? Or were you just lazy or inconsiderate and leave it on the car until you arrived at your destination??
