GMT pretty much summed it up.

Only steel ones I find are used, rusted, and are $20+. Or the crappy korean ones.

I bought this magpul one to compare it to the tapcos I have. If you look in the gear part of the classifieds, you will see that I am now selling my tapcos to replace them with magpuls.

I am going to wait awhile though. Magpul is supposed to come out with a steel reinforced version of this mag.

This is what I am waiting on.

Ahhh... the cliché and usually BS line of a "problem that doesn't exist" rears it's head.

I wouldn't exactly call it a "BS line"; as of right now, until they are reinforced with steel as they are supposed to be on the Gen 2 versions, they are only an alternative to the Tapco, as far as I can see. Just my opinion. Now, when they start producing the updated mags, it'll be a whole different situation. I can appreciate the rest of your points, and is why I asked. These will (to me) be much more attractive when they are better reinforced and can compete directly with Circle 10s.

It is BS.....especially in this case. It's a quality American company that is an alternative to Crapco? I'll take it, as will most logical people with experience with both companies IMO. Guys worry about "steel reinforcements" when I'd bet 99.99% of them have never worn out/broke a QUALITY polymer mag. Hence, I've yet to see someone wear out the all polymer Beryl mags, sure it happens.... but for a majority I'd wager these will do just fine. If not, then the steel reinforced ones are coming.

Point taken. I guess I'm fortunate that I loaded up on surplus mags some time ago, and have run across some deals on Circle 10s. If not, I'd prefer to wait until the updated version of these, depending on cost.

I've seen posts all over the web about the excitement over these, and can't figure it out; is it because they are a cheaper polymer mag than the Circle 10s (that are at this time much, much better constructed), or is it for 922r reasons (which are addressed by cheaper Tapcos)? Or is it just because they are made by "Magpul", which is the overwhelming choice of the AR crowd? When you can buy genuine steel, military-issue mags for the same price, the Magpul seems to be the solution to a problem that doesn't exist. And until they completely reinforce it with steel like the Bulgy Circle 10s, it will fall way short of the Circle 10s in durability. I'm prepared to be beaten severely for this, but someone educate me.

+1. I would like to see if these will pass the push up test. But they have got to be better than tapco. i dont see how they could get any worse.

I loaded up on AK mags the week after Sandy Hook as I had JUST bought another Arsenal. Even found some of the 40rd (10)s.......... but what worried me was that should our fearless "leader" or the ATF feel like it, they could ban importation of the steel mags. Leaving us at the time.... with Tapco and US Palm. I bought some US Palm mags but they were expensive and hard to find. Now we have Magpul so I'm happy.

Comparing Crapco to Magpul isn't fair. Crapco sucks, Magpul doesn't. I have quite a few AK mags and would take a Magpul any day over most of them; however, I prefer Circle 10 and Chinese flat-backs over all.

I'm slowly getting around to going solely with MP for AR-15 mags as well. I recently sold all of my Colt mags because both functioned like chit in my Colt AR's (go figure).

This is where I'm at. I own 12 waffle mags and 8 U.S. Palm mags. While I like the U.S. Palm mags, I would have definitely liked the option of the magpuls to test/run against. Especially at half the cost. At the price of the magpuls, if I need any more AK mags in the future, I will definitely be buying some.
