I think in Nov I will start driving around looking at my lap and maybe delay going from a stop light when I see a LEO around. When I get pulled over I will have my phone in the seat next to me and see what force they will use to try and get my phone to search it without a warrant. Won't they be surprised when my last text will be way before I started down the road.

That would be an interesting test. I don't know you but have followed many of your posts. I'd bet my paycheck that you would be paying attention to driving while pretending to be looking at a cell phone.

I don't believe in a problem that cannot be solved. There is usually multiple solutions to any non-mathematical problem. Some solutions maybe radical. You said it yourself, banning cell phones would be a solution. How about vehicles that disables the data stream when the vehicle is moving? That is another radical idea, which I do not propose, but it would stop someone from texting and driving. Controlling behavior requires either an appeal to morality or a fear of consequences. To me, this is a problem where fear of consequences are needed for those who engage in the act of texting and driving.

I will give you a simple minded answer to ease your brain... Ban everything that could or would cause a distraction or impairment while driving a vehicle. Alcohol, drugs, stereos, iPods, cd, DVD, annoying wife or kids in the car...

The only other way to 100% prevent people from hurting other people while driving is to ban vehicles... There, you now have the answer to your problem... Quit driving and save the rest of us the headache of knowing you're out there.

Been a professional driver for 18 years accident free. Trained every year in the Smith Driving system with quarterly refresher class'. Even have an onboard tattle tale mounted in my truck in case I switch lanes too often or go a few miles over the limit. Seen my share of people crowding lanes while having a phone in their face. Smith Driving teaches me to Look Ahead and Get The Big Picture, so I ease my way around them and keep focused on my surroundings.

Like I said earlier, I don't text and drive, nor does my wife and older kids, but when our beloved elected officials decide a law is needed for us but choose to exclude the elite, I get pissed.

This new law might save some lives, hopefully no cheap automatic knives are available to these non concerned drivers.

Nope, I have a complex brain. I'm looking for a complex solution to a complex problem. Are you up for developing a solution? Anyone can come-up with the simple, unworkable, and non-practical solutions.

Shutting off the data stream is the answer when your in the vehicle, and its moving. Time delay to make sure the stream is still stopped at stop signs works for me.

My GPS can put me within a few feet of where I want to be and tells me when I'm moving or stationary. The same GPS is built into the cell phone. Its a no brainer software addition to make all of that happen. I've read where car manufacturers already have the technology to make this happen, but won't enable it because of customer feedback.

If a federal law is enacted to require that, expect to see it on all new cars.
