So, in about a week, I'm taking my Concealed Carry class. Aside from don't point your gun at the instructor, don't be stupid, and don't miss the target, are there any suggestions you would give for the class in general? I'm curious as to what I should expect.

Also, I know this could get really controversial really fast, but what sort of 9mm rounds would you recommend? I'm looking at JHP's especially Hornady's Critical Duty and Critical Defense rounds. Are there others that I should try or perhaps a different type of bullet? Like I said, I know that calibers and ammo make people go crazy, but I'm hoping that since my caliber is already decided that the rest should be fairly tame. All thoughts and views are welcome.

Use a semi-automatic pistol for the class, so you can qualify for that, revolvers, and derringers, in that order. You can qualify for all down the list during the class, but not for any up the list.

I should clarify, I'll be using ball ammo for the class. The question regarding ammo type is just for everyday carry and such

What pistol do you plan on carrying? An awful lot of folks carrying 9mm use Speer Gold Dots in 124 grain. But really, any good name brand ammo, Hornady, Golden Sabers, Federal HST, etc. will be fine if you can hit what you're aiming at. I've got Gold Dots in my carry gun now (Glock 43) but would be okay with whatever, really. Hornady CriticalDuty is good for penetrating a barrier, like a windshield or door, where the Hornady Critical Defense is touted as a good choice in winter where bad guys might be wearing heavier clothing. Hornady says the tip in the Critical Defense rounds is designed so the hollowpoint doesn't clog up. I think they are a fine choice if you like them. The most important thing regarding ammo selection is reliability, as in your gun runs the chosen ammo flawlessly. As far as the class goes, if you can read and follow simple instructions, you'll be fine.
