In that case I’m a “Vietnam times” vet. January 1975-1979. My drill instructor got us all together one day and told us the good news is we weren’t going to Vietnam but the bad news was we were going to Cambodia. I joined with a Military Police guarantee but he also broke the news that every Marine was a rifleman first. One small fact my recruiter failed to mention. All I saw was Kansas and couple of trips to bring prisoners back.

I signed up for a delayed enlistment program in March of 1975 before I graduated High School. My first day of basic was June 9, 1975. I’ve been told several times that I was Vietnam ERA.
I never left stateside till after I left active duty in 1978 to join the AF Reserve at Tinker. When my time was up, a friend of mine talked me into to enlisting in the OK Air Natl Guard. Shortly after Gulf-1 started, one of the Sgts in personnel assigned to awards and decorations told me that I was authorized two awards for the National Defense ribbon. One for the Vietnam era and the second for Gulf-1.
