Which goes to show more proof why communism fails. It can't support itself. Obviously, Russia can't afford to make its own Antonovs. The second obvious fact is that Russia(Putin) cant afford to buy them, either.

Russia can not make them because Antonov has the expertise and patients. Russia has some aircraft manufacturers capable of making transports, Ilyushin to name one, but the are not as good as Antonov with the exception of the Il-76..

Oh and Russia could afford to buy them with all the money they are making selling gas to Europe, they just prefer to control their sources just like we do. The European A400 is better then most transport planes made today falling between the C-17 and latest models of the C-130. Head and shoulder above the AN-12 and Russia could probably buy a license to produce it. They could also easily buy a license to produce the Chinese Y-20.

As we shouldn't. We've struggled to mind our own business for some time now. Ukraine isn't our problem, and I can 100% see Putin's point about NATO adding them, and putting missiles on his doorstep. We wouldn't stand for that, and we shouldn't expect him to, either.
JFK didn’t stand for Soviet missiles in Cuba just like Putin won’t stand for them on his doorstep either.

Problem with that theory is we already have missile in Europe that can hit all of Russia. That is just an excuse for the media.

Yep. Ukraine is not a NATO country.

I’m not gonna struggle thru all 6 pages of this thread, but, this is all he wants; a guarantee that Ukraine will not join NATO. That’s it.

NATO is an anti-USSR/Russia outfit. He doesn’t want any more NATO countries on his border. If he invades the other non-NATO countries that border Russia will immediately join NATO. He doesn’t want that.

I don’t believe he will invade. He wants something, but it isn’t a war.

Problem is Ukraine can not afford to buy them. Their economy was close to collapse before Russia started screwing with them and they are just now really overhauling some of the weapons they did not sell off.

I did forget another reason Putin wants Ukraine back under his control, Antonov. The makers of the An-12, 24, 32, 22, 124, and many other transport planes the Soviets depended on.
He also simple wants a buffer between Russia and the west. And larger sphere of control.
