i am a little suspicious of anyone his age that has a magic potion to make the planet better. here add this powder and poof you can drink the water. ten years later the pwder is a carcinogenic

Cancer years later would be better than dying within days/hours due to dehydration or… (I’m suspicious too)

I once built a solar powered distillation unit with a Fresnel lens from a plasma TV. Cleanest water I've ever drank.

But I suppose I can't exactly carry that thing with me everywhere...

That’s a really interesting product. Back in elementary school we did an experiment using Alum to clean dirty water. The Alum acted as a flocculant to remove the suspended particles.

Riding bicycles for miles and miles as a kid we drank from some of the nastiest creeks.
One creek we drank from always had flowing water and we filled up our stomachs one hot day.
Next day we rode the same trails and went up the creek about 75 feet from where we got the drink the day before and there was a dead dog all bloated and 1/2 in the water with maggots all over the body.
Most of the dogs hair had rotted off.

We did not get sick luckily.
I have drank from the gutter as a kid about 5 houses down from where a guy was washing his car.
I should be dead.

I have used these, and we keep them on hand. The only downside is they have a mild taste.

But I suppose I can't exactly carry that thing with me everywhere...

But you can carry clear plastic trash bags or paint drop cloth and do the same. I always have clear plastic bags in my truck and other hidy holes just for a solar still.

I don't see anything new here except that it's in a small packet and sold to individuals. It's the same process as used in most municipal water supplies ...
