Since this thread is about deer hunting, we saw some fantastic hunting today by a big bobcat in our front yard.
We noticed the does quit feeding and start staring at the wooded fence line. All of a sudden a bobcat came running out of the woods and started chasing one of the fawns around the yard, never catching it, so it gave up and started chasing another fawn.
The matriarch doe that's been around here for years would have no part of that happening on her watch, so she started chasing the cat trying to kick at it.
They finally had a stare down with the cat leaving back where it came from.
Interesting as all get out to watch mother nature in action.

Got my first deer with traditional archery! Shot a doe at 22yrds with a recurve. 40 lb draw weight…. Got a clean pass through…. She ran 50 yards, stopped, and did the wobble-flop

Don’t hear that often. Congrats! I moved on from compound to hopefully one day shoot something with recurve. Haven’t pulled my bow out in 3 years since moving houses and somehow misplacing my string…

No. On the advice of some trad people, I bought a fairly inexpensive 3 piece…. Started off lightweight and moved up to heavier limbs when my form/fundamentals got more solid.

I can see buying something nicer for next season…. Although inexpensive and accurate is hard to beat. 20 yards is about the limit that I’m comfortable shooting to. My shot wasn’t perfect but it did the trick.

My first bow kill was with an Onida recurve set at 45 lbs. It also got a complete pass through.
Then I watch these TV hunters advertising luminox hit deer with about half the arrow not penetrating so they can watch the luminox glow and bounce around as the deer runs off and has to be recovered the next day.
They must be using 20lb pull bows.

I posted this over in the waterfowl thread. Might be time to hunt ducks. My deer season is probably over. I knew the windmill was coming but why in the middle of deer season?!

Congrats on this big accomplishment! :thumb:
I’ve been kicking around the idea of getting a recurve, but I still think my torn right bicep will protest.

I don’t know how much land you’re hunting, but deer are pretty adaptive as I’m sure you know. I bet they’re still going to hang around somewhere close.
