That’s what I was thinking. Now that I think of it, I know where two of those are. There’s one in Rush Springs. And then there’s one just west of Porter hill by stony point Road. I see people bringing water jugs to the one in Rush Springs Oldtown, in the past.

Now that I think of it, there’s a third one that’s a lot bigger I know of. An old army one on Fort Sill called Ambrosia springs. It’s a little ways north down in the creek behind the base Generals house. You would never know it’s there, unless you’re looking because of all the overgrowth.

Back in the late 1800s and early 1900s they had to use armed guards when using the well because of the Indians back in the day. It has iron bars over it now and it’s filled with rocks.
I’ve drank from the one by Stoney Point back in the 70’s. There used to be a hand pump on it.

A niece on the wife's side of the family and her husband used to own a property up near Cripple Creek, CO, and down from their property and along the road was a pipe that constantly ran water that came from an artesian well. That pipe was so popular for the locals that I think they county or state even created an area at the side of the road so the locals could park in while getting their water jugs filled.
There's one just like that with access from the road HWY 11 just east of Alva

That looks like an old water well that is capped. I know where one is that looks exactly like that, but without a cap

I was thinking it looked like a water well, too. If it's leaking water, it's probably artesian, where the surrounding water table is near or above the level of the wellhead.
Okay thanks, so you are basically saying this is a natural spring with a cap on it?

The water was continuous and someone had dug a trench to collect it for the deer to drink from. Tracks all over the place around it.

Back where my parent lived, there was a small concrete pad about a mile back in the woods. Footpath led to it. Had pipe constantly providing water. Ice cold and delicious. People would bring their kids with their little red wagons with the 5 gallon jugs.

Can the public still get to that artesian well? Remember back in the day when folks would come with all sorts of containers to get water.
It was on private ground but the landowner didn’t mind and actually facilitated additional access.
I do know there is a water company that has access to that well. They bottle it and sell it around the state in route trucks. Wife’s uncle gets 10 gallons a week from them for drinking water.

So you guys are saying it’s ok to drink from an artesian well? Never been around one so I know nothing about them😁
Watch others drink from them first. If they don’t croak or have violent dysentery, it’s probably good water.

That being said, there are tens of thousands of homes in OK whose sole source of drinking water is from a well with no sanitation system needed.
