I'm in the NW quadrant. As for starters think I will get the GMRS license and then Technicians. Looks like their are more people out there than I thought who are using ham radios and licensed.
Just keep in mind Ham cannot talk on GMRS channels and GMRS cannot talk on Ham channels. Two different animals, I have both myself and they have seperate call signs. Your Baofeng can be programmed to talk on the GMRS channels, I did mine. You use a program called Chirp.

I used Hamstudy.org as mentioned earlier. It made study a breeze... I also have GMRS and Ham KI5YWF and WRUI368 on GMRS.
The OKC repeater at 650 is getting busier by the day as well as ham.
At the moment I am reading up on AREDN which is a wifi network over RF that is completely separate from ATT /COX type internet. IT is point to point wifi that you can send emails ,texts , set up chatrooms and all sorts of stuff completely off the grid. It is for emergency preparedness but has so many other uses.

Riverbend and Friends Net on Tuesdays at 7:00 PM, on 146.550 MHz. Note, this is not on a repeater so you will need to be outside to hear it (or an outdoor antenna) and in the OKC area.

Edit: I would look into at least getting your Technician license, so you can use your Baofeng to its fullest. There are several clubs around the metro that offer testing, what side of the city are you on?
Do you know if Riverbend is running wide or narrow band?

Not a clue, I may be a General class but I'm fairly new to all this myself.

Edit: A word for word copy of the notification email they send out.

It will work either way. The radios will just have better sound if everyone is the same, whether narrow or wide.
Thanks.

There is an app called HRE tech. It has sample tests and questions. It will tell you if the answer is correct and direct you to the study of the correct answer.
