I remember reading some time ago a Mike Venturino article in either shooting times or guns and ammo about stuffing a couple 2 or three 000 buck shots in a 38 or 357 case for multiple projectile rounds.

Here's a link a guy on Greybeards forum sent me.

Anyway I have 6 rounds loaded up. I started with a lite charge, then a cardboard wad to kind of keep the powder down inside, dropped a couple 000 Buck shot, crimped, and finished up with a drop of Lee Alox on the top to kind of seal it.

Also because of the sizing issue of .350 000 buck I had two options.
Peening them to a slightly larger size or coating them in Alox which I did.
Since then I've found some .360 BP balls that I haven't tried yet.

I'm hoping to get to try these out soon.
But given the way I've been busy lately and the weather who knows when.

Anyone else on here ever mess with this madness?
By best hope is that these might work on yard critters.
I don't see them as a viable SD round.

Sounds like fun but for SD.....I was cautioned by my instructor to really think about using reloads and ought to stick with factory loaded stuff. If you had to use it, the prosecuting attorney or personal injury attorney could get nasty.

I load shot shells up for .38 and .44. Just wish they made capsules for .41. May need to experirment with some .410 card wads and gas checks.

That makes me think....could you use the speer shot capsule to contain your buck shot? Walls may be too thick.

Also....seems like I remember reading about something similar to what you are doing in an old RCBS book. Will take a look.

just remember that while the 000 buck is pretty hard, the BP balls are pure soft lead and you might get a lot of fouling.

Rather ironic you should bring this up. I have been looking lately for an old article I saved regarding buckshot in .38 and .357. It dealt ONLY with .38 and .357. It might well be the Venturino article you mention. I can't remember the author or which magazine it was in, but I know I saved it for future reference. Now, of course, I CAN'T FIND IT!

Once again here's the link I listed.

It was kind of buried in my post.

My plans are for critter control, not SD as stated in my post.

The businees about not using reloads for SD has been debunked.
Been proven unconsequential. All SD ammo is intended to kill.

Yeah, I got that. Matter of fact, I printed it out and haven't even lost it yet! The article I'm remembering dealt only with loads for .38 and .357 but gave several different powders/charges. I'm not sure of the author or the magazine, but it could be the Venturino article you are referring to. Thanks for the info!

I once crimped some .440 round MZ ball into the mouths of .44 mag cases with a few grains of Unique. They fired ok. No problems except that the first few I loaded didn't have enough powder to expand the cases to seal the chamber. Kinda fun to play with but they had no real use.

I tried various ball loads in pistol calibers several years ago and you can get some pretty neat results. One caution is in powder selection,
some powders like AA#5 jack pressures pretty quickly as case volumn goes down. I tried using shot capsules cut off to hold the balls
above the powder charge. Experiment and report... Blitzfike
