Well, the drought started 3 years ago. This year, most county's got plenty of rain this year. The NW county's are still in drought, with empty, or very low ponds.

Keep us informed what you find out if you would.

I did find dead deer. This one was near a river so water wasn't an issue. Pic from February.

I was able to speak with one of the biologist about EHD. He said that the department bases their outbreak information on reports that they receive from individuals who find dead deer near a water source. He did not know of any unusual number of dead deer reported in Creek county this year. He did tell me of a large outbreak in Oklahoma 2 years ago. He gave me a good amount of information about EHD. I don't believe the methods used to determine an outbreak are very useful or accurate though. I can see where most people in my area would not call the state to report dead deer. Oh well... Thanks,

I look for weird tracks. EHD is pretty hard on deer hooves. Chunks of hooves missing, one digit turned in too far or one digit shorter than the other are classic EHD signs.

I'm not sure what the problem is but I can't remember when I saw this few a deer. I've been out looking every morning and evening this week on wheat fields and turnip fields and saw 0 deer. These same fields in years past would have had deer on every one of them. I for one wish the state would issue an order to stop the doe killing..Probably no way that would ever happen..

That would be insane to that across the state. Best way to help that is education. I for one know of some areas that still have tons of doe. Get with your neighbors and try and convince them to hold off on does 2 years. Shutting it down statewide isn't going cause does in over populated areas to migrate across the state.

I've had the same situation for pretty much the entire season. Yesterday, it was like somebody flipped a switch, they were everywhere again.

That is good news Okie4570. I think the low number of sightings may be due to so much forage this year. Deer do not have to move to look for food. They can stay in a very small area and have plenty to eat this year. The grass is so thick and tall around here that you can't see them from very far away either like in previous years. If they are 50 yrds off the road, they are in too much cover to spot them. Maybe we will see more numbers when the acorn crop is gone.
