This tower guy is not happy about 5G

What a tool... "He feels like he's getting ready to pull the gold fillings out of your teeth before the gas chamber?" WTH!

Fear sells. No doubt about that.

I don't think he's selling anything, I've heard some generalized warnings about 5G.
I don't know squat about radio stuff, so this guy knows way more than me, and he seems concerned.
I guess we'll find out.

I DO know a great deal about radio and I listened to the first 3 minutes of this and it's all WRONG! This guy doesn't know anything! He says current cell phones use 1 to 2 MHz, that's not even close! They are in the 700+ MHz range. He's also talking about power levels and such, pure B.S. The new 5G will use much smaller cell sites than our current setup. They will be located about every block but will be much lower POWER than what we have today and use much higher frequencies. Our data speeds will be MUCH higher, in the 1 GB (gigabit) range compared to 20 to 100 MB now. He also talks about heating up the water in your body, that's what a microwave oven is designed to do, they operate at 2.4 GHz which is the frequency (and ONLY frequency) that water vibrates at. 5G won't be using any frequency near that. But don't let them put a cell site in your yard!

I do know that at close range those mini cell systems can cause health problems. Cox started putting a few for testing on our strands where we have fiber located and warned us if we see them to stay at least 5 ft away. This gives time for the signal to spread out and reduces the amount we are exposed to. But yes, the guy in the video was FOS.

But am I gonna have to replace muh flip phone?
[Kinda serious question -- I don't think I'll need all the fancy "new and improved" that comes with 5G. Will it be like the .327 Federal Ear Splitter Magnum, where you can shoot that, or step down to .32 S&W Long or .32 H&R Magnum ammo if you want to?]

Not for a while. For one, cell towers will have to be upgraded to offer both 4g and 5g, the fiber networks to the towers will have to be upgraded/expanded to offer the bandwidth that 5g is capable of (what most people don't know about cell towers is there are usually three entities involved: the tower owner who rents space to the cell providers who get their bandwidth from a backbone provider). It is going to be awhile before 5g is more common and the speeds come anywhere near what the 5g potential is. In a few places its launched people have complained that its no faster than 4g. That's easy to understand as cell providers never really maxed out the capacity of 4g, so if they use the same backbone the speeds are not going to be any different (basically its like if you upgraded your old Linksys WRT54g router with a Netgear Nighthawk but only had a 30 Mbit/sec plan from your broadband provider, you won't see any faster wifi speeds than before).

So give it a year or so before you even think of upgrading. And if your current phone does everything you need/want, don't bother yet.
