So, I am looking back through my retirement account from one job I held for 4 years.

2018 was a tough year, my total was down -8.32%, every cent of which was in the last quarter, when the stock market took a YUUUUGE dump.

In 2019, I am up 20.27%.

2016 - +9.59%
2017 - +16.36%
2018 - -8.32%
2019 - +20.27%

3 years - +8.04% annualized
2015-2019 - +7.49% annualized

This is all pretty new to me. this account is only from when I worked in Ponca City and I only contributed to it from Jan 2015 through June of 2018. No new contributions since then. My lowest point was Christmas Day 2018. the tank began Oct 10, 2018 and began to rebound immediately after Christmas, being back up to 'even' or my pre-tank point in February of 2019.

So 2019 was a good year for my widespread investments, I hope it continues, but I'm not sure, we'll see how things go. I've since started another 401k, this time with actual matching employer contribution up to 4%, I think, not just my own (F You, TeamHealth). This account should build much faster, I hope.

I'm open to tips, if anyone has any. I'm maxing my 401k for now, and investing in guns and ammo. lol

No more 401K for me. My retirement accounts are all managed now and spread far and wide to defeat the ebb and flows of the stock market. Pretty much don't even look at them anymore except for a semi-annual meeting with the financial guy. Pretty steady returns on the investments.

Mine is a 403B and it kicked a$$ last year. We have the option to freeze it in a savings mode if the market has a turn down. Let’s just say that option has proven to work out real nice in the past.

All the numbers were good when I looked at my 401K and pension. I can live very well off the interest alone , so today was my first day of retirement. I'm not ready for this. I hate change. I've only been out of work for two months in the last 50 years.
I’ve told my kids since they were young ‘work will set you free’. I know it’s cryptic but true in many ways.
