When I saw this I was genuinely worried they had made it incapable of firing live rounds.

Holy cow, the ATF did something that makes sense. :D

This brings up a couple of thoughts: The gun has a patent date of 1926 but IIRC, the first Detective Specials appeared in 1927. Who knows, maybe this is a prototype. Couldn't tell, though, since the original serial # is gone.

Also, I find it interesting that the ATF would make an outlaw's gun "legal". I think that today's ATF would either destroy the gun or make it inoperable.

At any rate it's a neat story. Thanks for posting it, Todd.
