VZs are very cool. This guys does outstanding work as well:

He did a great, custom one-off set for me (even put in Colt medalions), and the price was not too bad for custom work.

Higgi (thats what I like to call you). VZ makes some of the best grips. They have a color called Black cherry and also one called Tiger Stripe and both look like wood. You can scan the 1911 forums and you can find them for sale from time to time.

They have a lot of styles to choose from but I always like the Operators. Here they are in Tiger Stripe

NikatSIG is right though about the black. Here are some VZ's in Desert Sand

I've had excellent luck with 1911 grips from http://www.linvilleknifeandtool.com/2007/product_grips.html jThe #36 pattern is very functional. Linville folks are great to deal with.

I have a set of very early VZ grips that are great. A later set of VZ's did not last a match season; seemed to be short on quality. The warrantied replacement set of VZ's aren't lasting too well either.

http://store.mil-tac.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=14 build some nice grips. G10 is heavier than Micarta, but wears better. Micarta is heavier than wood, but wears better. There are several different variations of Micarta; paper, linen, etc.
