Hope this isn't a double post. I'm going on a black bear bear hunt in New Brunswick, Canada. What would work better, soft spire point or round nose? Bullet weight will be 180gr. Shot distance, probably 50yds give or take.

Black bears can get big in that part of the world. A big black bear can be a tough animal to kill. If you make a less-than perfect shot, they can be hard to track because their fat can seal up the wound preventing a good blood trail. I used 160 grain Partitions out of a 7mm Remington mag for my bear, and I would strongly recommend you use a good, bonded bullet.

I took my first black bear with a 180 grain round nose. Retrieved the bullet from the front shoulder and still have it. Frankly, either one will kill it dead. Bear aren't that tough to kill.

I quit gun hunting big game 12 years ago. My biggest black bear was a nice Pope and Young bear that squared 7 ft. That arrow killed it deader than dirt.

You'll be fine. Enjoy your trip and be safe.
