At the time I built my 300BO they had not begun mass producing aftermarket brass for the 300BO. If you could find it cost was ridiculous is the reason I formed my own
Some things just shouldn’t be messed with I think id buy blackout brass

50 BMG will chamber in a break action 12ga too but I'd like to think I'm smarter than that...
My first deer gun was a .410 single shot shooting 30-30 out that smooth bore. Out to 90 yrds would hold a 5inch group. Today I would not do that but most of my cousins and I started out deer hunting with that platform. We were to poor to buy a game specific firearm until I was in my late teens.

I'm not an AR guy... so this may be a dumb question.

Given the difference in bullet size, a .300 BO shouldn't even come close to chambering in a 5.56/.223, so how does it ruin the gun?

But it does fit. But even 55,000 psi won't push that .30 bullet down the .223 barrel. Then the magic smoke comes out.

How many of you own .380 and 9mm? same diameter. But you don't freak out about that?
9mm won't chamber in a .380, and many (most?) 9mm autos will actually run .380 ammo (it doesn't seat, but the extractor holds it in place). Besides, it's a downgrade in power rather than higher.

I still wouldn't recommend it, though...
