I need to remove this nut to install a Magpul ASAP plate, can you remove this w/out the spanner wrench tool or is that the only way to get it off without messing anything up?

Brass punch and a hammer in the notch for the spanner wrench...just do it carefully.

If it's staked it's a b|tch to without the right tool.

If your castle nut is staked, then it probably won't even be easy with the AR Wrench.

Either way, I wouldn't try it without it. You don't want to mess up a perfectly good part (not to mention the possibility of jacking up the threads on the tube) just because you're in a hurry.

Lots of folks around your area have wrenches that they would let you borrow - You've even got Medlock's Firearms nearby that probably sells those wrenches.
