Not illegal, but they did stop making them for political reasons. I wouldn't carry it simply because the ammunition is at least 10 years old at this point and storage conditions may or may not be known. The best ammo is whatever allows you to shoot the most. Once you are proficient with a pistol through training, only then should you worry about ammunition selection.

With that being said in 40 I carry 180 grn GDHP.
