best place to find remington 700 actions

where would be a good place to find a remington 700 short action? I dont want to have to sell a kidney to get one. Do they have anything like that at the gun shows or would I have to by a complete rifle?

A few places used to sell "New" 700 actions.
But they wanted the same or more than buying a whole new gun.
Best to look around for a good used one.
If your going to rebarrel it then finish doesn't matter, cause you will need it refinished after barreling.
If your going to restock it, then the stock doesn't matter either.
go to gun shows and look for the ugliest 1 you can find.
I love "beater " grade guns cause usually their beat-up on the outside and good on the inside and dealers are hard pressed to get rid of uglys.

The smith that works on my rifles said he can buy a rifle from wal-mart for the same price as just an action and use the other parts or sell them.

You cannot buy actions only anymore. Best to just buy the cheapest complete rifle you can find and take everything off it.

You can buy cheap "hunting" type rigs at Walmart for around $300 bucks last one I got for the donor action.
