I bought one two days ago from the airsoft store by H&H. I bought it because another guy in my office bought a cheap plastic one and shot me with it, so I wanted to get a cool one. It's all metal, with a flat top, telescoping stock, flip up front and rear sights and a down grip with 4 rails on the handgaurds. It holds 400 pellets and shoots at 400 feet per second with selectable fire, semi, or auto at 650 rounds per minute. It's electric with battery and charger. It's way too much for our intraoffice shooting, especially in thin slacks and dress shirts. I was going to return it, but if you want it I will sell the whole package to you with 2700 bbs, battery, box, charger and downgrip for $200. It's literally been shot maybe 50 rounds.

ha!!! seems like you went a little overboard!

Yeah its freaking awesome, but way too much to shoot people in dress clothes with at close range. The sales guy at my office looks like he got attacked by red ants.

G&G makes a really really nice gun and you can stay under $200 with it. Alot of big time players will use them as a backup some guys run them full time. My son has one and since christmas its had over 30,000 bb's through it and its never had an issue.
Ive got a G36 made by Jing Jong or something like that it runs around $200 also and its been flawless.
TA Airsoft has good prices also check Airsoft Atlanta they have a massive selection

Edit: Took too long writing my post that he^^ beat me to recommending the G&G first :P Lol

If your starting out I would recommend taking a looking at the G&G Combat machine m4 Raider series. Granted these guns are not full metal, they are polymer, and are just as strong if not stronger than the cheap pot metal alot of airsoft guns use(Not all but most). These packages come with the battery and charger, which I'm sure arent anything special, but they will get you started. If you want to buy local im pretty sure TA airsoft by H&H should carry these. If not airsoftgi was the website I always bought my stuff from, A+++ review from me with free shipping and they usuualy have a 10%-15% coupon code floating around. There are tan color guns also if you search the site.

I don't really play anymore and sold most of my guns, but my most modded gun is a custom Raider and they are great guns, especially starter guns, very reliable and shoot great out the box. Depending on where you buy this from it should leave you a healthy ~$100-150 in your budget to pick up some high quality BB's. .20's or .25's depending on where your playing, I would do some research on that topic so you understand how the weight and quality of the bb affects the accuracy and range. Airsoft Elite BB's are decently priced especially if you buy the 3 pack and much better than anything you could buy locally at sporting good stores (not including TA airsoft here, haven't been there in some time and don't know what they have in stock)

Of course you need good eye protection, can't help much here depending if someone wears glasses or not, I wear glasses so I was always handicapped here and can't give any good recommendations. I think based on his age to play at TA's field he may require a full paintball mask or face cover, not sure you would need to contact them and ask. But you only have one pair of eyes and they are especially vital when your playing so make sure he gets something comfortable and won't fog up on him.

Another thing to consider is to get a tac-vest for him to lug all his stuff around in, maybe a few spare mags.
http://www.airsoftgi.com/index.php?cPath=28_173&sort=2a&PLsort=5a Theres some vest's seems like they gone up in price since I played last, you can probably get them cheaper online or on some forums (okairsoft ((local)) and airsoft forum is a good one to look for used gear/guns)

Possibly get some extra mags to go in some pouches on that vest, no one likes running out of BB's. They do have low-mid-high capacity mags, I would do some extra research on them to see what you guys would like best as they have their pros and cons. Low and mids don't hold as much( Normally 30 and 100 respectively) and don't require winding, high caps usually hold ~400ish( varies) but you have to wind the bottom of them every ~30BB's or so.
Just an example, but you can browse around and check out the different mags and capacity's.

Anyways i'm just rambling at this point so if you have any specific questions feel free to ask, i'm sure there's plenty I missed or didn't cover :P (Like the standard $35 smart chargers are pretty useful if your gonna use normal battery's, makes charging much easier since you don't have to monitor them)
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=1224 Can probably find that cheaper elsewhere if you wanted.
