I have a Rossi 720, .44spcl still has a hella twist on the wrist, but will put a big hole in whatever you hit. My is dao only also. Heavy thing, but excellent car gun.

I like the absence of a front sight,,,
In a "get off of me" gun who really needs one.

That long sight channel should be sufficient at self defense distances.

I did chuckle though,,,
I reminded me of my first carry gun.

My very first carry gun was a ROHM revolver,,,
It was a .22 short only snubby,,,
I was 16 years old in 1967.

The front sight fell off after one box of cartridges,,,
When my Dad saw that I told him I did it on purpose.

He said that's a great idea,,,
When you pull the gun on someone,,,
And they take it away and shove it up your @$$,,,
It won't hurt nearly as much when you pull it back out. :pms2:

Just had to relate that story.

Doesn't .44 special still use the older slow-burning powders? In any case, the examples I see tend to produce way more smoke than their magnum counterparts.

Most of the ammo I see are also hard cast "cowboy" lead nose bullets designed for lever actions, too. There are modern defense loadings out there, but you're looking at $1 per round then.

Still, Charter makes solid revolvers. Don't expect watchmaker-worthy fit and finish, though.

You won't go wrong, as .44spc is an extremely effective round, and about halfway between .38 and .357 in recoil. But I'd only get it if you're really interested in the niche appeal, as there are going to be cheaper and more practical options.

Edit: cheaper as in ammo-wise

I don't think I can find a better value revolver for $350 than a charter deep cover or bulldog.
