Colt Halts Production of Long Guns for the Retail Market???

I just found this update on the article.

Here's what TTAG has posted for an update:

UPDATE: TTAG was able to speak directly with Paul Spitale, Senior Vice President of Colt’s commercial business line. He confirmed the above. Colt has halted production of its commercial long guns lines and is focusing its manufacturing and sales on 1911s and revolvers.

He also stressed that Colt has about 110 days of long gun inventory in its distribution network and if market conditions change down the road, they could revisit this decision.
This actually makes sense from Colt's perspective. The market is literally flooded with AR stuff which equates to almost no profit. There is some money in 1911s and revos. But one also has to just wonder what is going to happen with future legislation. Did they hear something? They may be boosting their capacity and inventory to sell what will be legal to sell instead of sitting on a bunch of scrap they can't turn.

Colt's Manufacturing Company LLC, West Hartford, Connecticut, was awarded an $88,607,109 modification (P00008) to contract W15QKN-15-D-0102 for M4 and M4A1 carbines. Work will be performed in West Hartford, Connecticut, with an estimated completion date of Sept. 25, 2020. Fiscal 2019 and 2020 operations and maintenance, Army funds in the amount of $88,607,109 were obligated at the time of the award. U.S. Army Contracting Command, New Jersey, is the contracting activity.
