Explosion in bobcats?

Is it just me or has the bobcat population exploded?
Growing up in Antlers and hunting and running the woods for many years, I've only seen one cat, and it ran across the road at night.

Here in the city, they are everywhere.

There has always been a healthy population but since the fur prices dropped in the '80s they have not had much pressure on them and are getting more prevalent. That is why they increased the limit on them from 6 per year to 20 several years ago.

Funy - I have only driven through Anlers maybe 10 times.
Bought my place last feb and now come up through PARIS -

BUT
I have seen 2 bobcats run across HWY 3 since JUNE.

Just luck I guess.
Both of my sightings have been around late afternoon



I do have tons of PAW PRINTS all over my place in the mud.
either bobcats or mountain lions.
Some are 3/4 the size of my hand if I look down on it after making a fist......

No claws are sticking out - so I guess it is a cat and not a dog , since the dogs would have their claws out.

I don't really think there is a huge increase in them.I seem to call in about the same as I did 20 years ago.If the fur prices continue to plummet that could change in the next few years though.I don't usually hunt them for the money anyway, that's just a bonus.

3 years ago I saw 3 different cats on the same day!!!! I was hog hunting in Leflore cnty.Then I almost ran over one going to work last week.

I saw a bobcat not too long ago running across Seward Road south of Guthrie. Not exactly rural, but not exactly town, either. Still, I was surprised.

I just about hit one last week on my way home from work. He was running from Lakeside Golf course over to The Links. I have seen them in my neighborhood too. They are around.
