Never say never!!!
This is a true story.

As a child went to visit my Dad (a former machinst) for the normal weekend, long time ago.

There on his coffee table he had a cloth of some sort, and a micrometer!

Dad: "Come here and sit down, I want to teach you how to read this micrometer!"

10 year old me: "Dad, I dont want to learn how to read that micrometer, I am NEVER going to need to know that in my life!"

9th grade me: Shop class
10th grade me: Metal shop class 1 and 2, mechanical drawing
11th grade me: Machine trades program at the local vocational school (I own two micrometers now), Dad passed away in the fall that year.
12th grade me: Machine trades program at the local vocational school, early placement, 2nd half of school year start working in shop as a tool and die apprentice, have Dad's micrometers now.

After graduation, apprenticeship, more micrometers!

I told me Dad I would NEVER need to know how to read a micrometer, and now have a bunch of them and all kinds of precision tools, and reading them is second nature.

I never had a chance to laugh with him about that, but I like telling this story of NEVER say NEVER!
