Like above, I have been to outdoor, unregulated, ranges many times, but unlike the above, I have never seen anyone do anything unsafe. The same applies to the various indoor ranges I have been to. I have seen some folks that I thought might misbehave, and watched them to insure I didn't add to their conduct. There are stupid, or unthinking, people everywhere, fortunately they are still in the minority.

Our outdoor range has a nice light and sound warning system. Anyone going downrange has to flip a switch which activates loud buzzing and red lights. Very very handy and nice.

Of course, if some idiot doesn't activate the switch, WTH can you do, right?

You can't prevent stupid, but you can legislate against it.

Cool Idea. If you don't mind could you post or pm the location of that range.
I'd like to do something like that at ours.

Let me know anytime you wanna come check it out.

<edit> It's very nice with a switch located at every shooting station, and any switch activates the system, but all switches must be turned off to stop the system. Works quite well, actually.
