I've known a few good officers and they put those under them first. One I knew didn't and she was fired because she didn't support the troops and the troops sure didn't support her. Hal Moore would always pass muster, he was of a rare breed and went through hard times to earn three stars that he more than deserved.
He was a great man. It's a real tragedy the great boys we lost in that war, and the damaged folks who suffer to this day.
It's also a shame we didn't give them the welcome and support they deserved afterwords.
