This may not be "new" but I don't think I have heard of anything like it before.

It would be in the form of a double elimination tournament:

1. Shooters arrive and pay an entry fee (let's say $20)
2. 4 person teams are selected by a "blind draw"
3. 1st round would be Team 1 vs. Team 2, Team 3 vs. Team 4, etc.
4. Winning teams advance in winners bracket, losing teams to consolation bracket.
5. 2 losses = elimination
6. 1/2 of entry fees goes to the range, 30% to 1st place, 15% to 2nd, 5% to 3rd,

What do you think?

It would suck if you were the best shooter at the match, but drew 3 of the worst people for your team.
I'd take them and have fun.
Play in a couple of benefit golf tournaments (4 men scrambles) and often have 3 of the worst players on earth but good friends on my team and have a ball.
I would probably be in the lower tier shooters picked but that's cool too.

Sounds like it would appeal more to gamblers than shooters. Most shooters like to be scored on their efforts and compete against others in similar class, IMHO.
What novice wants to go and hear complaints he's "dragging down our team?"

Really sounds more like a charity golf event for gamblers and party goers.

someone on each team will be the best (on the team) and someone the worst. Back when I could swing a golf club, we had scrambles every thursday with a blind draw for partners, was fun.

Great idea CorpsVet. I too play in a Tuesday night scramble where the A, B, C and D players are mixed draw.
It's fun. As far as the money, heck, I bet I can find an old bowling trophy as the prize.
