Just because you cannot drive up and get to that spot like an OGE employee doesn't mean you are any less likely to catch that fish. That fish swims by lots of shoreline, that you can fish, to get that far into that area. Just like everyone else fishing, it is a crap shoot on catching fish that big. If it comes out of the lake, it qualifies for the record.

It is just easier access and no hike required for OGE employees. Besides there is security of the power plant, transmission system and OGE property first. If the power plant discharge wasn't there, the fishing on the shore you can hike into would probably not be as good as well.

Don't record deer shot on private property count for the state records?!?!? I don't have access there. Not sure that idea will get far on not certifying animals/fish as records.

I am truly jealous... Ive made that hike carrying alot of fishing gear before.. Can honestly say I don't think I would ever do it again.. fishing was great caught lots of catfish.. after sacking up on fish and walking back, it SUCKED...

My first time walking the same mile before working there, made me wonder what I could do to make that trip back easier.

Working there I've seen red Ryder wagons, bicycles with trailers, Trailers pulled by people, and so on, some of them are really innovative!

That just hit my gotta-have list:mosh:

Vdub, I stand to be corrected. The guy that caught the fish is a dad of a member that works at metro service center.

Fish weighed 23.6 lbs. Girth 23", length 39" Fish was caught on a 4" white sassy shad, Shimano Calcutta 200 reel with 20# Trilene Big Game line. 7'6" All Star rod.

No biggie. I still have a little bit of envy that I have never caught a fish that big when I was fishing there. I did catch some nice fish and pulling them up against the discharge makes them even bigger. I have always had a good time fishing there. Even when the birds were trying to steal my silver and black Zora Spook off the top of the water.

I have fished up there on the drive in side more times than I can count also, I used to ride with my dad to work on spring break and slaughter the hybrids all day long..thats when the shad were in there big time.. never seen anything like that pulled out of there all the times I've been there.. caught some 10 pounders on topwater, I envy this guy, great fish!

I will tell you this fish has made me seriously consider going up there this weekend to do some fishing. I have caught some pretty nice stripers on top water there by the discharge. Haven't been up there in awhile and getting that fishing itch.

With the weather being forecast somewhat stormy, it might be a good weekend.
I can assure you that its not like it was three years ago. Real spotty now. the hybrid/stripers will make a run in there to find some shad, and not finding them, will leave quickly. Back in the day before zebra mussels, it was consistant most of the day. SUX!

Later in April or so, they swarm the intake. Active sooner employees and guests only allowed in that area. Let me know if your interested.

You better know it!!! I am sure dustingaunder (with or without wife) would be interested as well. Just let us know what date/time if you are planning a trip or can escort to the intake.
