NVD compatible question

what is the difference between NVD compatible aimpoint/eotech and non-compatible aimpoint/eotech? what make it not compatible with NVD? I looked at both I have an aimpoint ML3 and I looked at an aimpoint M3 at the store, I don't see any different, they're all the same.

The NVD compatible has a lot dimmer dot, So dim you cannot see it in normal light.
But shows up great with NVD.
It all boils down to cost in making it.
The EoTech has a separate button between the on/off buttons for NVD settings,
