Why is it LE & Med personnel have a life more valuable than any one else?

I keep seeing businesses with signs about giving ppe to LE & Med but have none to sell to the gen pop.
Gloves for LE & Med
Masks only for LE & Med
Hand sanitizer for LE and Med

I guess only their lives are worth something and the rest are not.

There is nothing wrong with protecting yourself if you feel the need.
What about people trying to live their lives that need gloves for cleaning, painting, oil changes, working around the house?
I'm sorry I don't live in fear, you can choose to live your life as you see fit.
This socialist BS has to stop.
We don't ban liquor or cars because of drunk driving deaths.

Just to add a perspective, we had to hit up the local hospital this week to help us get some more masks - so we could give them to visitors and patients as they come to our clinic. We remind everyone on the phone to bring one if they can, but lots come in who need them and don't have them. We nearly ran out and had to hit up multiple resources to get more.

As for me, I've been using and reusing the same ones for weeks - I have a single N95 I use when in high-risk situations, like actually sticking a swab in the nose of someone suspected to have COVID-19, and my other homemade cloth mask with a paper coffee filter during all the rest of my interactions in the clinic and in public.

I'm sorry if that all annoys you.

Oh, right, I forgot, now that we're two months into this, we are finally going to be able to do some testing on our staff this coming week to see how many of us have been exposed and possibly generated immunity. Yay for us.

Crap, the other thing I forgot, I managed to get 90-day forebearances on my mortgage, business loans and student loans so I can survive on the 50% pay cut I have taken, while spending more hours at work, but making sure to pay my staff 100% of their salaries. And taking handouts from the government to be able to keep my business open, as well as mortgaging the present against the future earnings of the fall. That's when we'll actually know if we're going to survive or not. I just have to hope my collections will pick up in 90 days to be able to pay for those things I put off now.

To be fair, we do have a choice... I mean, we could close the doors like most of our other clinics in the area have done and told our patients to fend for themselves. Via phone recordings, like many others.

But we decided to stay open.

Folks that fight fires require more protective equipment than those that do not. The same principle applies, and it's nothing new or unreasonable.
