The Ruger GP is a tank. Lock time is rather long, but if you can hold it steady, accuracy is excellent. It will hold up to a steady diet of magnum ammo. Your arm will wear out before it does.
^^^G2G is right. Ruger's are very tough. Many S&Ws are too, but some of the lighter, non-steel Smith's aren't built for a steady diet of 357 mag loads. It may say "357" on the barrel, but even S&W advises not to shoot a lot of magnum loads in those guns. Personally, I think that sucks, it being a "357" and all.
For general shooting fun and HD, the GP 100 is an excellent choice. And the 357/38 combo is versatile and tons of fun. Especially out of an all steel 6-incher.

Don't listen to the haters there in nothing wrong with a Taurus revolver. I say see if you can find someone who has one and shoot theirs . I think you will be happy with it. And as I posted earlier if you want more rounds go with the Taurus 617 ( 7 shots ) and if you want a longer barrel the 627 is 6 1/2 " and 7 shots of .357. And if you want even more shoots then there is the 608 8 shots and 4" barrel.
I have a lot of automatics and only 1 revolver....a S&W 686 plus. I LOVE that freakin gun!
Hear hear! Bully! Tough to beat a good 686! I bought a model 85 Taurus years back and the damn thing never ran right. Soured me on them personally. It was a POS compared to a J-frame S&W. If some of youse guys got Tauri handguns now, and they are good to go, well good on you!
