Looking for a rimfire revolver for my 2nd mother, but to be honest, I'm not well versed in the rimfire revolver world.

The main thing I want is a 3" (less is okay, 4" is okay, but certainly no longer) barrel, 8 shot (10 if it exists), something along the lines of a J-frame size, but larger is okay. .22 caliber rimfire... be it WSM or LR.

Something similar to a 317 would be great I think, but I would like to have a steel frame (stainless or carbon).

So, what is out there? What model numbers are along those lines? Gripes and complaints about them?

I've been wanting another S&W 617, but with new prices approaching $800 (incl tax, etc.), I'm beginning to rethink. I'm beginning to consider another Taurus. I got rid of one not long ago for no good reason.

The 617 is a great revolver, but besides price, it is bigger than what it sounds like you are wanting.

I picked up a pre model 18 in "shooter" condition for a reasonable price at a gun show a while back. That was the sweetest shooting revolver I have ever had.
