So where's the best (free) place to get an idea of the value of a S&W?

I agree with you completely. I love my 10-6. Definitely my favorite handgun.

I have a model 10 M&P manufactured in 1914. Its about a foot from me as we speak.
After further study, the above pics are of the K22 masterpiece.

Here is a 5" 1946 postwar transitional M&P I picked up Saturday. It is about 99% and appears to be unfired; the best part is, it's wearing number matching prewar Magna's, which caused a little stir on the "Blue Board"!
Sorry for my poor photography skills; I'm still learning who to use my new camera and post pictures here. These photo's were taken before it was cleaned, wiped and preserved for storage.
