From KOTV in Tulsa:

A law enforcement official told CBS News' Pat Milton the shooter apparently had a handgun, an AR-15 assault rifle, and a shotgun with him and was wearing dark blue clothing.

Had to get that "assault rifle" bit in there. Just had to. So, following the popular narrative, was the shotgun an S-12? Was it in his trunk (or glovebox)?

If it was capable of burst fire it was properly called an assault rifle. Given that possibility, as well as the access control noted above, this sounds more and more like an insider. Think "Nidal Hasan."

Negative. It would be a machine gun. Assault rifle is a made up term.

An assault rifle is a select-fire rifle firing an intermediate-power cartridge; it is distinguished from a battle rifle by the lower-power cartridge (i.e. 5.56 NATO as opposed to 7.62 NATO). "Assault weapon" is a term conceived by gun control advocates with a deliberate eye toward confusing semi-automatic-only rifles with similar-looking select-fire rifles.
