to be safe I'd take it to a gunsmith and have him check it over! just to be safe where your not sure about the ammo. IMO
does it have a large S on the reciever? if so then yes its in 8X56R
but you never know if it's been reworked? IMO
any import marks?

its more likely its in 8X56R but there is still some around still in 8X50R. i had 400 something rounds of 8X56 last year
