So those cages they put truck tires in when seating the beads aren't just for show I guess?

We had a guy at a local tire shop get cut in half with one of the rings from a 2 piece rim back in the early 80's before the cages was required at all tire shops.

Prior to the tire cages, we wrapped log chains through the wheel "holes" and around the tire in at least three places. Even the dumbest of us would never have crouched on the tire while filling it.
